I built Carve Room out of a desire to create a space where writing could emerge as a rich creative practice — and not merely be an act of typing words onto a screen.

As writers know, writing isn't just one thing — it ebbs and flows across different stages. Carve Room is designed to support that entire writing journey — and make it enjoyable along the way.

Who is it for?

Essayists, bloggers, non-fiction or short story writers will find Carve Room most useful, but it has enough structure to support novels, fiction and other kinds of writing as well.

Where is it now?

Carve Room is currently in development. I'm planning to share a private beta with an initial cohort of writers in the coming months. As I continue to build it, I plan to share what I'm learning — both about building an app like this, and about the craft of writing through the feedback of other writers along the way.

A little about me

Hi, I'm Kasturi. I build systems for a living, and I'm a lover of good design. I also write on the side, with a heavy dose of procrastination in the mix. I joke with myself that I procrastinated so hard on writing that I ended up building a writing app.

The app started from a desire to build something that would feel inviting to enter — not merely a blank page to battle. From there, using my work experience and love for design as a guide, I started noticing the frictions I experienced around writing, and designing ways that would help move through those resistances more easily. Over time, it grew into Carve Room.

What I wasn't prepared for was how fulfilling it would be to share Carve Room with other writers. Every piece of feedback and every comment I've received helps sharpen the lens through which I see Carve Room, and helps me continue to grow it in turn.

This experience of sharing Carve Room with other writers, and learning from them in return, is something I'm hoping to grow as I invite more writers into the process. If you'd like to be a part of that, I'd love to have you along.
